A small fine quality Georgian brooch.

Mounted in 15k gold, The cameo is fashioned from cowry shell and superbly carved to depict the Greek philosopher Socrates.

The use of the various layers in the shell  by the artist shows incredible talent. The hair, clothing and highlights picked out in the lighter cream colours contrasting against the brownish colours of the bust.

Excellent details for such a small carving.
