Description
This is an eye-catching early 20th century gold and diamond griffon brooch, depicting the mythical beast which is said to have the head of a lion and the wings of an eagle.
The griffin is a common figure in folklore representing strength, courage and it is a guardian of treasure.
It is fashioned in 14k gold with white gold teeth and old cut diamonds for its eyes and mouth. It also has a very unusual safety catch with a patented design, and a hook on the back so it can be worn as a pendant.  Â
